Military Working Dog FFancy Adopted by U.S. Air Force Veteran

American Humane recently had the honor of working with a retired Military Working Dog (MWD) FFancy, a 9-year-old Belgian Malinois, who just this month had a final mission – retiring in a forever, loving home with Shane, a U.S. Air Force veteran.

FFancy’s tale is one of loyalty and resilience. Serving a pivotal role in the kennel master training course at Lackland Air Force base, FFancy worked with all levels of handlers from basic training courses to advanced handling, and was crucial in shaping seven students into the skilled handlers they are today.

During her dedicated duty, FFancy encountered an injury that led to neurological deficits in her hind limbs. Despite her challenges, FFancy has made remarkable strides in her recovery, thanks to well-deserved rest, physical therapy, and top-notch medical care she received from the military veterinary staff.

When Shane learned of FFancy’s availability for adoption, he knew she belonged with him. Shane, a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1988 to 2014, opened his heart and home to FFancy. Shane sees her not just as a dog but as a fellow veteran who deserves the best retirement possible, and these two already share a bond rooted in mutual respect and love for our country.

Shane and FFancy have both suffered injuries in the line of duty and Shane is dedicated to supporting her recovery by maintaining her physical therapy program, which will be fully paid for by American Humane. We also covered the costs of her transportation to Shane and will pay for all her future veterinary bills.

You can help us make a profound influence in the lives of MWDs like FFancy by donating to help American Humane continue its work to transport these deserving dogs to their forever homes and give them lifelong veterinary care.
